Meet the Artist // Ellen Swisher Crabb

I am a business woman and an artist.  I have been painting portraits for ten years which has increased my awareness of the beauty all around us, in one another, in animals, and in the land. In my business life, I listen to the thoughts of others to tease out common threads, potential implications and opportunities.  In my artistic life, I watch faces and listen for universal and interesting stories.  I love collecting moments and stories of others, and turning the mental snapshots into paintings of the grocer, cleaning lady, banker, farmer, mother, or friend.

My hope is to paint more abstract pieces including figures.  My hope is to communicate the beauty of a treasured and precious moment.

I thank my teachers, Rose Mary Browne Beck, Julia Wicks, Rob Day, Carolyn Anderson, Ellie Siskind, C. W. Mundy, and David Michael Slonim.  I thank my studio mates and family for their abundant support.
